5-2 SBCT Command Team returns from Afghanistan July 14
JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. ‑ The 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division’s command team and more than 270 Soldiers assigned to the brigade, will return to Joint Base Lewis-McChord July 14.
Col. Harry D. Tunnell and Command Sgt. Maj. Robert A. Prosser, along with about 270 of their Soldiers, are expected to be welcomed home by family and friends in a ceremony currently scheduled to take place at approximately 3 a.m., at Wilson Gym on JBLM Lewis-North.
The brigade deployed in July 2009 to Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The brigade was headquartered in Kandahar, and served 12-months supporting the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) operations throughout southern Afghanistan.
5th Stryker Brigade has been redeploying from Afghanistan since the third week of June. By the end of this week the majority of the brigade’s approximately 3,900 Soldiers will have returned to JBLM.
